Birthday cake for my young pirate

In France, we love to eat cake and patisserie, it's even cultural. Also a birthday 's cake is essential during a birthsay party... but here in Australia a birthday's cake must be also beautiful with a lovely and funny decoration. Australian people have lot of creativity for this and it exists a job (that does not know in France) : cake designer. For exemple : have a look on this website here, it's fabulous : http://www.sweetart.com.au/ or this one : http://laelcakes.com/gallery.html.

Also, for my younger pirate for his third birthday, I have decided to be creative and to bake a "piratly soft chocolat cake". The most marvelous is to see his eyes shine and just to be happy.
And here is the result...

I am proud and next time I will try an another decoration more complex...like this one for exemple ;-)

Shark attack...even in France

Since our arrival in Australia in last August, we heard four or maybe five times about shark attack close Perth on the shores in Western Australia. Few experts said that sharks don't like human (hapily for us) but they confuse humans with seals.
In the better case, they taste human (a leg or an arm) and when they discover that it's not a seal, they go away to find something more tasty and more fat...

It seems that there are more attacks than before because the australian population is growing a lot last years and also because is loving aquatic leisure.

And last week, French Island "la Réunion" has unfortunatly experimented the same kind shark attack. The shark has eaten a young surfer before the eyes of other people : tourist, fisherman... who can't do nothing to help him. It's chiling isn't it ?

Are there solution to defend themsleves agains scary predators... I think not, if you get eaten by a shark, it was your destiny. One solution : try to surf in swimming pool ;-)

To see shark "without danger" but if you like thrill, you can go to Port Lincoln and meet shark under the sea protected by a cage.

2 australians to the Film Festival of Cannes

And now begin on May 16th the prestigious Film Festival of Cannes, which as its name suggests, takes place in Cannes on the Cote d'Azur in southern France. This film festival presents a selection of films of the year (rather "cinema d'auteur") and invites producers, directors and comedians to submit their films to win the "palm" of the year.

The strongest picture of the festival is certainly the famous "red carpet" (of the Festival Palace), where artists are welcomed to star in an atmosphere so glamorous and so frenchie, "haute couture" dress for ladies (Chanel, dior, Gaulthier, ...), men in tuxedo, lot of photographers, champagne...

And for this 65th edition of the Film Festival of cannes, this year will have the pleasure of welcoming distinguished guests among these two major international and Australian artists:
Kilye Minogue and Nicole Kidman for two new films:
    > The Paperboy, the U.S. Lee Daniels (with Matthew McConaughey and Zac Effron)
    > Hemingway & Gellhorn (out of competition), the American Philip Kaufman, in which she plays Martha Gellhorn, the third wife of famous writer.

Appointment on May 27, to hear: "... and the winner is ...."

A little air of Brittany in Australia

Look my discovery :
buckweath four produced in Australia and the best one because organic...

Thank you to Australian organic online : http://www.organicsaustraliaonline.com.au/

After this discovery, this sunday, I have decided to bake Britannian crepes for our lunch..
> salted for the meal
> sweety for the dessert to the delight of my children ;-)

Here are the recipes

For the weath doug (sweet) :
500 g weath flour
250 g caster sugar
1 small spoon of salt
4 eggs
2 soup spoons of oil (sunflower)
vanillia
120 ml water (1 glass)
Mix with a wood spoon all ingredients in this order, after this add 1 litre of milk to dillute
wait 30 minutes and you can bake.
When it's cook, you can add jam, sugar, chocolat, fruits, ice-cream, cream...
These crepes can be eaten the day after cold with butter.

For the bucckweath doug (salted) :
250 g buckweath flour
50 g wheat four (plain flour)
1 small spoon of salt
1 egg
120 ml water (1 glass)
Mix with a wood spoon all ingredients in this order, after this add 1/2 milk to dillute
wait 30 minutes and you can bake.

In Brittany we like eat these crepes with ham, cheese and egg....and lot of butter of course... delicious

If you have not the good appliance to bake crepes, you can use a big pan very flat (it's easier).

Enjoy... a perfect crepe's time is with cider... but I have not found yet. If someone know where I can buy a delicious cider, let me know !
